Expanding Access to Critical Treatments
Bringing CLL treatment to patients in low- and middle-income countries

Cancer claims more than 10 million lives each year, but the risk and resources aren’t distributed equally. About three-quarters of cancer deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) – yet this same group of countries receives only 5% of global cancer spending.1
Where traditional approaches to commercialization and distribution leave gaps in access to innovative therapies, the need for a new approach is clear. In May 2023, BeOne Medicines, BeOne Care Foundation, and The Max Foundation (Max) launched a partnership to provide access to CLL treatment to patients in LMICs. This collaboration advances each organization’s focus on patient access by combining Max’s expertise and infrastructure with a donated CLL treatment from BeOne, and a grant from the BeOne Care Foundation.
“The collaboration between Max, BeOne Medicines and the BeOne Care Foundation on CLL therapies is a bold step towards expanding global access to treatment,” said Pat Garcia-Gonzalez, CEO of The Max Foundation. “Our partnership has enabled us to reach people living with CLL in low-and middle-income countries. We work together as problem solvers, embracing innovative practices and overcoming daunting challenges.”
Delivering on Our Mission
For BeOne, ensuring global access to our medicines is not just a goal – it is a core mission.
“When I started BeOne, my goal was to ensure more patients could have access to critical medicines regardless of geography or socioeconomic status,” said John V. Oyler, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO of BeOne. “This collaboration with The Max Foundation is a critical step in achieving this objective and emphasizes the necessity of high-impact partnerships to remove some of the obstacles that prevent patients’ access to treatment.”
By combining The Max Foundation’s deep-rooted expertise in developing patient-centered solutions, BeOne’s innovative science and the BeOne Care Foundation’s mission to eliminate barriers to cancer care in underrepresented communities, the partnership is removing barriers that have long prevented patients from receiving the care they need.
